Securities Regulations Advisory Group

About the Advisory Group

The Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) established the Securities Regulations Advisory Group to provide advice to the AASB on securities regulatory matters. This includes recommendations on projects to develop or revise standards that focus primarily on the auditor’s role and responsibilities in the capital markets.

Role & Responsibilities

The role and responsibilities of the Advisory Group includes the following:

  • Identifying key issues in the Canadian securities regulatory environment.
  • Considering alternatives and developing positions on issues to recommend to the AASB.
  • Assisting the AASB with stakeholder consultations.
  • Drafting a revised or new standard for the AASB to consider.
  • Developing the exposure draft for approval by the AASB.
  • Analyzing stakeholder responses to the exposure draft and providing recommendations to the AASB to address feedback on the proposed new or revised standards.
  • Drafting the proposed final standard for the AASB to consider.
  • Assisting the AASB in identifying implementation risks and possible responses to those risks.
  • Providing input on implementation guidance.  

Meetings

The Advisory Group meets privately on an as-needed basis.

The results of the Advisory Group meetings serve as the basis for the agenda papers presented to the AASB when a relevant project is on its meeting agenda.

The Advisory Group consists of:

  • members with significant experience with securities regulatory matters; and
  • an observer from a regulatory body.
