The Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB) is seeking feedback from Canadian interested and affected parties on its Exposure Draft, which asks whether the International Sustainability Standards Board’s (ISSB) proposals for nature-related disclosures are appropriate for use in Canada.
The ISSB issued its Exposure Draft on October 22, 2026, setting out proposals for IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Practice Statement 1, Nature-related Disclosures. The proposals are intended to help companies provide investors with material information about nature-related risks and opportunities, including how their dependencies on nature give rise to these risks and opportunities.
In developing its proposals, the ISSB drew extensively on the work of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), particularly its emphasis on the importance of location and interactions with Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and affected interested and affected parties when providing nature-related disclosures.
The CSSB's consultation will help the Board assess whether the ISSB’s proposals are appropriate for use in Canada and inform its response to the ISSB. Through its Exposure Draft, the CSSB is seeking feedback on:
- Whether the proposals are appropriate for use in Canada as issued.
- Whether changes or additional Canadian-specific support material may be needed.
- Whether the proposed Practice Statement should be included in the Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards Handbook as non-authoritative guidance.
- Considerations relating to Indigenous Peoples.
