Maria Berlettano brings over 34 years of combined analytical and investment experience to her role on the Public Sector Accounting Board. In 2015, Maria joined CIBC as Head of Canadian Government Credit Strategy from which she retired in 2021. At CIBC, she was responsible for political, fiscal, economic, and debt market coverage of the government sector, which included the federal, provincial, and municipal sub-sectors as well as crown corporations and SSA’s (supranational, sovereign, sub-sovereign, quasi-government and agencies).

Prior to joining CIBC, Maria was a Partner and Fixed Income Portfolio Manager at J Zechner Associates, an independent asset management firm where she worked for 14 years. Maria also held several senior positions with other firms during her career, including Managing Director at Canadian Bond Rating Service (CBRS), Global Banking Analyst for S&P Global Industry Insight, and Senior Equity Analyst (banks, insurance, non-bank financials) at National Bank Financial.

Maria is a former member of the Canadian Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) and the User Advisory Council to the AcSB. Her views and opinions have been regularly sought out by major global and national media over the years, and she was a regular bond market contributor to the buy/sell column for the National Post.

Maria received her Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) with Distinction from Concordia University in 1987 and was also the University’s recipient of the Financial Executives Institute Medallion Award in Finance. In 1991, she attained her CFA charter.
