The CSSB met in-person in Calgary, Alberta, to discuss the agenda topics outlined here.
Strategic Plan Deliberations
The CSSB reviewed and discussed the engagement activities and general attributes of the people and entities that provided feedback during the consultation on the proposed 2025-2028 Strategic Plan. The Board reviewed and discussed the feedback on its mission; vision and values; and strategic priorities A, C, D, and E. The Board will deliberate on feedback on priority B and the criteria for assessing strategic priorities at its next meeting.
Communications and Engagement
The CSSB discussed the development of:
- a holistic communications and outreach strategy; and
- building Indigenous communications and enhanced engagement strategies that advance its commitment to Indigenous Peoples.
Indigenous Education Module: Youth Perspectives on Sustainability and Climate
CSSB members and staff completed the next module of the multimodal and multidisciplinary educational program on trust and relationship-building with Indigenous Peoples. The Board was joined by Stoney Nation Elder John Snow Jr., who provided an opening prayer and smudge ceremony. Elder Snow also shared some reflections on Stoney First Nations and Treaty 7 history and the critical importance of learning about Indigenous histories as part of reconciliation. Elder Snow guided on the importance of seeking to listen with both an open mind and open heart in this meeting and as the Board undertakes its work.
Guest speakers from Indigenous Clean Energy and Tatâga Inc. led an educational module on youth perspectives on sustainability and climate change though the themes of relationality, stewardship, and intergenerational responsibility.
Amendments to IFRS S2
The CSSB discussed staff’s recommended approach to responding to the International Sustainability Standards Board's (ISSB) Exposure Draft, “Amendments to Greenhouse Gas Emissions Disclosures: Proposed amendments to IFRS S2,” relating primarily to measurements and disclosures.
Climate-first Guide
The CSSB finalized its climate-first guide publication timeline, scheduled for release in summer 2025.
Governance Updates
The CSSB discussed the Governance Committee’s recent activities and scoping considerations.
Enhancing Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Standards
The CSSB discussed the ISSB’s forthcoming enhancement project on the SASB standards and the due process followed. The CSSB decided to submit a letter outlining its concerns regarding due process and its suggested adjustments to the process.
