Donna Bovolaneas retired after a long and diverse career focused primarily on financial reporting and audit quality. Between 1982 and 1999 she headed the Bank of Nova Scotia’s first global accounting policy group and, during the period of major financial sector reform, its financial sector policy unit. Donna was also seconded to the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (now CPA Canada) from 1992 to 1994 to assist in the development of specialized accounting standards for financial institutions.  

In 1999 she joined the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions as head of its newly created Accounting Policy Division. Donna was appointed to the Secretariat of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision in 2004, and in 2005 became the first Secretary General of the Public Interest Oversight Board where she served until 2009.

Donna is a past director of several New Brunswick enterprises such as Service New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Community College, and Vestcor, which provides pension investment management, advisory, and administration services to the public sector. She is also a past director of CPA New Brunswick.

Donna served on the Auditing and Assurance Standards Oversight Council (AASOC) for seven years and was the inaugural Chair of the AASOC Nominating and Governance Committee from April 2017 to March 2022. She was also a member of the Canadian Sustainability Standards Board Implementation Committee beginning in September 2022.

Donna qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1972, and in 2011 was awarded a Fellowship in Ontario. She has a bachelor of arts in Russian from McMaster University.
