Volunteer Opportunity – Accounting Standards Board

The Accounting Standards Oversight Council (AcSOC) is currently seeking
new members to appoint to the Accounting Standards Board (AcSB).

Requirements

AcSOC is looking for experienced individuals who:

  • are committed to the AcSB’s strategic direction;
  • have a broad vision;
  • possess an understanding of accounting concepts; and
  • are able to anticipate the implications of proposed standards.

AcSOC maintains a balance of different backgrounds and perspectives amongst the AcSB’s members. AcSOC is currently seeking expressions of interest from individuals:

  • with any occupational, regional or other background; and
  • who have deep experience in financial reporting issues.

AcSOC is particularly interested in candidates who are involved in the preparation of IFRS financial statements, work in public practice with public companies, accounting researchers in academe or financial statements users. Being bilingual is an asset.

Commitment

This demanding but rewarding volunteer role involves a time commitment of approximately 275 hours a year, including preparation and meeting time, as well as opportunities to represent the AcSB by conducting presentations and stakeholder outreach. The AcSB normally meets face-to-face in Toronto seven times per year and, at other times, by conference call, unless additional face-to-face discussions are warranted. The time commitment excludes travel.

The appointment would be for a three-year term ending March 31, 2020, with possible renewal terms.

The AcSB establishes financial accounting and reporting standards for use by Canadian entities outside the public sector and participates in the development of internationally accepted accounting standards.

Expressions of interest should be submitted by November 30, 2016.
